New South Australian tunnel project finalised

The South Australian Government has announced the successful tender bid for the contract to construct the $160 million O-Bahn City Access Project.

Construction company McConnell Dowell will design and build the multi-million-dollar tunnel project, which is expected to support 450 jobs during its development and construction.

South Australian Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Stephen Mullighan, said in a statement that McConnell Dowell is engaging SAGE Automation for the project, which will provide expertise in the mechanical and electrical components of the tunnel.

This includes the design and construction of the tunnel ventilation system, security surveillance and incident detection systems, fully automated traffic management systems, fire and life safety systems, power supply systems, and lighting.

SAGE Automation will also deliver some of the latest Intelligent Transport Systems for the project, which will monitor safety, traffic flow, CCTV and communications within the tunnel as well as provide for emergency response in the event of an incident.

Mullighan said community and stakeholder engagement had informed the design development and decision-making process so far.
