Moscow selects TomTom for a Smarter City future

), a global leader in navigation and mapping products, and the City of Moscow, today announce a cooperation agreement to design a road transportation programme fit for the future. The agreement will see an intelligent transportation programme developed with the goal of improving the overall situation across Moscow’s road network.

Moscow is already delivering a leading road network and recently won an Achievement Award from the International Transport Forum 2016 for its exemplary approach to improving traffic conditions in the Russian capital. Using data from TomTom’s Traffic Index, Moscow has gone from last place in 2013 to 5th place in this year’s ranking.

“We are pleased to be working with TomTom on this programme,” said Mr Liksutov, Deputy Mayor, Moscow Department of Transportation.  It will allow Muscovites to obtain objective information about the transport system of the city of Moscow. By opening new research opportunities in this field we will improve the transport situation in the city together. I’m thankful for colleagues and look forward to future cooperation.

“We built the TomTom City Portal to connect consumers and city governments and this agreement is great evidence of our strategy in smart cities,” said Ralf-Peter Schäfer, VP Traffic and Travel at TomTom. “We look forward to working together on the city of Moscow’s development with road analytics and management tools from TomTom to help the city further reduce congestion and pave the way to becoming a Smart City.”
