KTA offers to help Kansans with out-of-state toll-billing errors

Officials say problem is because of video tolling in other parts of the country

The Kansas Turnpike Authority is offering to help Kansans who receive bills from out-of-state toll agencies in error.
While the bills do not come from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, the KTA can help residents resolve billing errors because of relationships KTA has built with other toll agencies.

Officials said billing errors typically are because of video tolling in other parts of the country. Other toll agencies search for a license plate and send the bill to the first result.

Kansas, like a few other states, has multiple plate types that bear the same numbers. When an out-of-state toll agency runs a Kansas commercial tag 12345, the first result that appears may be a Kansas antique tag 12345 and that resident gets billed.

Kansas residents who receive a bill for a trip they did not take can call KTA at 316-682-4537 ext 2270 or e-mail help@ksturnpike.com. Kansas residents who receive a bill for trips they did take on an out-of-state toll road should follow the instructions on the bill to pay for the trips.
