Government, Academia and Young professionals recognised in this year’s ITS Australia National Awards shortlist


A celebration of excellence in intelligent transport technologies, in its sixth year, the ITS Australia National Awards is a major initiative of private, government and research bodies which recognise the expertise and contribution of Australian technologies to the future of global ITS.

Expecting approximately 150 prominent industry professionals to gather at the spectacular Sydney Opera House with the iconic harbour foreshore offering a picturesque backdrop, this year’s awards and Gala dinner is on Wednesday 18th November at the Sydney Opera House.

Keynote speaker for the event, Mr Tim Reardon, Secretary Transport for the New South Wales Government will highlight the digital transport advancements in NSW.

ITS Australia has congratulated the following finalists in the categories:

Industry Award

  • Cohda Wireless – Project Description: V2X Software Stacks
  • AD Engineering – Project Description: Full Colour Portable Variable Message Signs (pVMS)
  • Seeing Machines – Project Description: Driver Distraction and Fatigue Intervention Technology for Commercial Fleets

Government Award

  • Roads and Maritime Services – Project Description: Special Event Clearway eSigns
  • Department of Transport and Main Roads – Project Description: Real-Time Travel Information
  • Transport for NSW – Project Description: Cooperative Intelligent Transport Initiative

Research Academic Award

  • University of NSW – Project Description: Research Centre for Integrated Transport Innovation
  • Data61 (formerly NICTA) Description: Advanced Data Analytics in Transport (ADAIT)

Young Professional Award for professionals under aged 30

  • Yan Xu, Research Engineer, Data61 (formerly NICTA)
  • Dean Reading, Electronics Engineer, J1-LED
  • Timothy Scott, Operations Management Control System, Tolling Engineer and Analyst, SICE

With the 23rd annual ITS World Congress to be held in Melbourne in 2016, this winner of this year’s Young Professional Award will receive added international exposure and valuable networking opportunities in front of 7,000+ international ITS professionals.

Chair of the ITS Awards Committee, Gino Dompietro, ITS Australia Director and ITS Principal at Jacobs says “‘the calibre of this year’s entries is the highest yet, and is certainly a very pleasing indication of the rapidly improving quality and rapid growth of the ITS sector in Australia. “I would like to congratulate all the finalists and those who have made the shortlist for this year’s awards and look forward to announcing the winner on the Awards evening,” Mr Dompietro added.
