Cubic’s NextBus fleet management application receives award from CONNECT

Cubic Transportation Systems, last week announced that its NextBus Fleet Management Application received the Most Innovative New Product (MIP) Award in the Communications and IT category at the 2014 CONNECT MIP Awards that took place at an awards ceremony on December 4.

In addition to the eight companies honoured for their outstanding new products, the Distinguished Contribution Award for Technology Innovation was awarded to Dr. Robert S. Sullivan who serves on Cubic Corporation’s board of directors and is dean, Rady School of Management, University of California, San Diego. Sullivan has served on Cubic’s board for 10 years and is an acknowledged visionary leader in global business education, the application of technology to learning and the commercialization of new technologies.

“We congratulate Dr. Sullivan’s recognition by CONNECT. The award is well deserved and we are appreciative of his continued service on Cubic’s board of directors. Dr. Sullivan’s expertise and leadership has been instrumental as we continuously build upon our enviable set of strengths, said Bradley H. Feldmann, president and chief executive officer of Cubic Corporation.

“It also is a great honour being recognized with the MIP award. Innovation is a core value of the Cubic culture, enabling us to deliver not only new technology but solutions that are the most responsive in the industry to customer needs. NextBus is an integral component to realizing our NextCity vision– Cubic’s strategy for regional mobility to optimize the information and payment management assets and services of customers across all modes of travel.”

The NextBus Fleet Management application is a modular, mobile gateway for connecting passengers and public transport operators to valuable real-time travel and operations information. For passengers, this means knowing exactly where their next bus is so they know how long their wait time is. For operators, it is a cost-effective, high-quality and reliable application to keep buses on schedule and drive efficiencies in their services.

In its 27th year, the annual awards program continues its tradition of honouring San Diego’s leaders of innovation and groundbreaking new products launched in the last year. In addition to NextBus, two Cubic solutions, Halo Array and NeuroBridge 2.0, were selected as finalists in the Aerospace & Security Technologies and Software categories.

The annual MIP Awards is CONNECT’s largest and most prestigious event, attracting more than 700 of the region’s top business leaders, researchers and capital providers. More than 100 San Diego-based companies competed in the rigorous, four-month judging process, with a total of only eight winners awarded in categories including: Aerospace and Security Technologies, Communications and IT, Diagnostics and Research Tools, Pharmaceutical Drugs and Medical Devices, Mobile Apps, Software, Sport & Active Lifestyle Technologies and Sustainability.
